“Mourning becomes Electra” by Eugene o’ Neil"

Introduction:-

Eugene Gladstone O'Neill was born in a New York city hotel room. He was one of the most admired playwrights of all time. He was the son of Mary Ellen “Ella” and James O'Neill. His father was a stage actor. His mother developed an addiction to morphine. Ella was also still grieving for Eugene’s older brother, Edmund, who had died of the measles three years earlier. O'Neill spent much of his time on the road with his father.

Then he was sent away to boarding school, he spent years at St.Aloysius Catholic upbringing. His heart wasn't in his studies.In 1960 O'Neill studies in Princeton university, after leaving Princeton, O'Neill floundered for a time. O'Neill married to Kathleen Jenkins. He is finding inspirations from such European dramatists s August Strindberg and later enrolling in a writing class at Harvard university.O'Neill had his first play produced in Province town, Massachusetts, in 1916 : Bound East for Cardiff, a one act play that was staged in New York later that year.

O'Neill took the theatrical world by storms in 1920 with Beyond the Horizon, in which he won Pulitzer prize. He again married with Agnes.Eugene O'Neill died of bronchial Pneumonia on Nov. 27, 1953 at the age of 65, in Boston.

2. Christine Mannon :- Wife of Ezra Mannon

3. Orin Mannon :- Son of Mannon

4. Brigadier General Ezra Mannon :- Father of lavinia and Orin

5. Captain Adam Brant :- Lover of Christine

6. Hazel Niles :- Friend of Mannon

7. Captain Peter Niles :- brother of Hazel

8. Seth backwith :- Aged gardener of Mannon

We see that o’ Neil gives three part of that:

· Home coming

· The Hunted

· The Haunted

 Analysis :-

As we know that lavinia and his mother Christen love to Adam Brand. Here we see that Adam was cousin to Ezra Mannon. Both are faces was same and how women psychology itself became love to Adam. At that time not in home to Ezra. So we see that both mother and daughter lover them. Here see that revenge of that. Lavinia haws know that his mother love to Adam. At that time Ezra came to home and christen told that she loves to Adam. At time Ezra was dying. As we see that lavinia and Orin was anger and went that. Peter and Hezal loved to lavinia and Orin. Both are not accepted that. Both are love to this brother and sister. But at time we see that Mannon family becomes criminal. At that time christens was sad and she became suicide. Orin love his mother and not happy that she loved to Adam.

In the play death has center. How Mannon house was mystery and problems to leave Mannon member. So we see that lavinia mind so bad and evil. She was not love to peter. But just only for blind love Adam. Orin killed to Adam brand. Just his mother becomes suicide. When time pass a way lavinia and Orin goes to island and time want away.

How world war effect to this family member die. But not to war effect, it is evil of all Mannon family and his old forefather leave in that house. May be Mannon mystery and seriousness in this family member die. Here we see that lavinia love her father Ezra it is Electra complex and Orin love christen it is Oedipus complex. It is psychology and unconscious mind of Mannon family.

Here we see that lavinia was criminal and it’s between to love means she said that “I am love of my father and care to him” it means that lavinia was wife of her father. It is love them. May be lavinia kill to Adam and christen. It is in not to play. Here see that play was complicated and problems of Mannon family and house. At end that Orin came and struggle in war. He was also shut out to his father gun and suicide that. Whenever time moves away lavinia was think that to write book and history of Mannon family. At last lavinia has lock in Mannon house and she committed suicide. Lavinia has given justice and largest criminal mind in Mannon house.

So we can say that it is psychology and evil mind of people. Not happy with each other. Lavinia has criminal and love her father is Electra complex. Just to be conscious mind and disorder to lavinia mind.
